Tailpad Tips

Where to place a tailpad and how to get it to stay on:

1.  Look at your board. Identify the "sweet spot" on the tail. (This is the spot that your back foot tends to be.) Center your pad over this spot. Normally this spot is between your trailing fin and side fins, just forward of your leash plug.

2.  To get the pad to stay on you MUST remove all wax, dust, and whatever else. After cleaning the area, drag your finger across the surface. If you see any streaking, then you are not done. The best final step before applying your pad is using some window cleaner and a clean towel. After you remove the paper backing, place the pad on the board working from the center outward. Press as you apply. Final step: grab a hair dryer, and with caution, warm up the pad to soften the glue, so it adheres better to the board. Be really careful to just warm it up - don't forget that heat kills surfboards!

3.  After warming it up, press again from center outward to super-bond the glue to the board.

You're Done !!!

Recycling Your Tailpad
So you've buckled your board. After you're done crying about it, think about this, It might make you feel better!

1.  Take some soap and warm water and wash the tail of your surf board, cleaning up the tailpad as best you can. Rinse well!

2.  Grab your mom's hairdryer and warm the tailpad. Be Careful! If you get it too hot the glue will separate from the pad. Be Careful! don't melt anything in the process.

3.  Gently peel away the pad from the tail of the board

4.  Apply your recycled tailpad to your new 'shibanky' model surf board, pressing the pad from the center out towards the egdes.

5.  Repeat hairdryer process to again soften the glue for better adhesion to your new board.

6.  Any corners of the pad that lift away from the board can be anchored with super glue

You're Done!
